LJÓS | VINYL

After the intense touring activity of 2015 that brought Ljós to theatres and festivals around Europe, we felt the need to press the original soundtrack of the performance into a unique and physical object due to the high demand from the audience to have a copy of the music they had just experienced live.

Our research led us to choose vinyl as a physical support. More in particular, we chose a white, very light and almost transparent colour reminiscent of light, one of the main themes explored in the piece.

The entire soundtrack is pressed on the A side of the vinyl, while the B side contains two exclusive remixes that, revisiting the same soundscapes of Ljós, highlight shades and unusual colours, opening up new scenarios and pathways to further expand the dreamlike and surreal dimension of Ljós.

For the artwork on the cover of the vinyl, we collaborated with Medulla, a local laboratory with whom we have produced several screen print pieces. Each time, they work with unique, meticulously selected materials. Medulla’s approach often incorporates traditional, archaic colour techniques rooted in the construction of colours solely from natural elements. Given the organic nature of the pigments utilised, their living quality underscores the importance of researching material stability in relation to the fabric on which they will be applied.

The resulting effect is permeated with the fascinating imperfection of the natural pigments, making each copy a unique piece of craft. For this reason, each of the three hundred copies we pressed is hand-numbered.

Ljós’ original soundtrack is available on double 12" gatefold vinyl in a limited edition of 300 pieces. The cover of the vinyl is a hand-printed, hand-numbered serigraph realised with organic pigments by studio Medulla. Carefully mastered by Giuseppe Ielasi.
