Seed0385 is one of the Artificial Botany prints we realised for fuse* solo show “Mutamenti” (2022) at CUBO Bologna (IT). On this occasion, we have had the honour to work with a new dataset, comprising the dry herbarium and the illustrated herbarium by Italian botanist Ulisse Aldrovandi.

The aesthetic of the work significantly diverges from previous Artificial Botany prints, featuring a predominantly light, paper-coloured background from the Aldrovandi dataset. Another important element is the text in the bottom section of the print, which the machine learning algorithm attempted to replicate. Representing as a central subject an organic shape extending vertically throughout the length of the print, the work is another attempt at eerily capturing and imprinting on paper the synthetic mutability born from the machine learning representation of the ever-changing natural world.
