UNSEEN FLORA .CB03

Unseen Flora is a series that reimagines the world of botanical illustrations through the lens of AI. It shines a spotlight on the fantastical and surreal botanical illustrations created by four fictional British scientists and artists, having at its core the exploration of the idea of post-truth contextualised in the contemporary digital age.

Expanding our research for physical mediums, for this series we created Unseen Flora .CB03: a print distilling a single moment from the video series into a tangible, physical form. Visually, the work builds on a narration dedicated to Charlotte Bancroft, one of the four botanical illustrators and explorers whose stories are told through the series. She dedicated several years living within a remote and largely uncharted archipelago in the Pacific, capturing through meticulous drawings the interconnectedness of the local flora and fauna.

The work has been produced using laser printing on Fujicolor matte paper. This technique allows for a deep, velvety black background that eliminates glare and enhances the vibrancy of the botanical forms. The result is a print that maintains the visual depth and conceptual richness of the original moving image, while offering an intimate, contemplative encounter with this imagined fragment of natural history.
