Multiverse was shown for the first time to the public in 2018 in BDC28, a deconsecrated church in the center of Parma, through a solo show that opened on April 20th and lasted until June 10th.

The magnificent location of Borgo delle Colonne has played a central role in the life of Parma and its citizens for hundreds of years, undergoing upheavals and transformations but always representing a site of public interest for the local community. Nowadays, Borgo delle Colonne 28 is the headquarter of BDC, a center dedicated to contemporary art founded by Lucia Bonanni and Mauro Del Rio. BDC also played a significant role in the project by co-producing the realization of Multiverse.

The theory and narration explored in the piece gain a particular connotation at the moment it is installed in a venue with such a strong history and meaning: being Borgo delle Colonne an old place of worship, we were particularly interested in exploring a narration that could take the visitors beyond the walls of the church, beyond the present time and space. The goal was to attempt to evoke the profound sense of connection and transcendence that is usually felt when engaging in religious activities or prayer sessions. We, however, decided to explore this feeling through scientific theory, which is generally considered an opposite scope of knowledge than religion since it relies on empirical observation, experimentation and logical reasoning.

That is why the original setup of Multiverse includes mirrors on the floor and hung on top of the installation: to evoke a sense of being suspended between different dimensions, to give visitors the chance to peek into parallel realities created by the installation.

The installation of the piece consisted of a 7.5 meters high, 5.2 meters wide projection and two large mirroring surfaces, the first suspended above the work and the second walkable on the floor. The two mirrors generate an infinite reflection of the digital pictures both towards the sky and the center of the earth: by doing so, the goal was to increase the perception of reality and the surrounding environment by suggesting that the installation was expanding beyond its physical boundaries, projecting itself into a limitless void.

The setup choice wants to foster a profound connection and immersivity of the audience in the piece, while at the same time setting a seemingly insurmountable distance with the vastness and impenetrable complexity of the universe.
