Following our ongoing commitment to supporting the redesign and revitalization of local museums that preserve and share the history of our territory, we have been collaborating with Museo di Casa Cervi since several years, a historic museum dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Cervi brothers. For the occasion, we implemented a comprehensive redesign of the permanent exhibition pathway.
The seven Cervi brothers were prominent figures in the Italian Resistance during World War II, known for their courageous stand against fascism and their ultimate sacrifice in 1943. Casa Cervi, located in Gattatico (RE), serves as a powerful symbol of resilience and commitment to freedom, offering visitors insight into the brothers' profound impact on the local history and culture.
As part of the exhibition and museum renewal, we developed three multimedia video installations that enrich the narrative and engage visitors on multiple levels. Two of these installations are informative videos that delve into the histories of influential individuals who played significant roles in the lives and activism of the Cervi brothers. These pieces offer essential context, enriching the understanding of the social and political landscape that influenced the brothers' actions. At the same time, they ensure the narrative is conveyed through visual elements that resonate with visitors, using languages that reframe a well-known story in a fresh and innovative way.
The third installation is an emotional piece that tells the intimate story of the Cervi brothers themselves. The narrative weaves together archival photographs and firsthand accounts from historians, bringing to life both the personal and collective experiences of the brothers. To elevate the storytelling, we created custom animations using After Effects and TouchDesigner, reviving historical content through contemporary visual techniques. The accompanying custom musical composition, created specifically for the piece, further amplifies the emotional depth of the piece, guiding viewers through the brothers’ journey.
A distinctive feature of this video is its projection onto a wall made of raw earth. The natural, textured surface of the wall adds richness and depth to the visuals, grounding the narrative in the physical space and creating a deeper connection between the story and its environment.
