In 2023, we had the pleasure of being included in the groundbreaking exhibition “LUX: Poetic Resolution” in Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul (KR). Curated by Suum Projects, the exhibition represented the second chapter of the LUX shows, the first being installed at 180 Studios in London in 2021. In Seoul, we have taken part in the show presenting a site-specific version of Artificial Botany .morphos, this time realised on 11 screens encompassing the walls of the gallery.

“LUX: Poetic Resolution” is a major exhibition of contemporary new media art featuring 16 large-scale installations by 12 leading international artists and collectives. Together with our studio, the exhibition included installations by Adrien M & Claire B, Je Baak, DRIFT, Julianknxx, Krista Kim, Marshmallow Laser Feast, Carsten Nicolai, Pipilotti Rist, Universal Everything, Cao Yuxi, Maxim Zhestkov. The exhibition's overarching theme comprised the utilisation of the latest A/V technologies, focusing on the resolution of light and the frequency of sound as artistic mediums.

In this context, Artificial Botany .morphos was adapted for the specific section of the exhibition where it was to be displayed. To present a more immersive and enveloping piece than the original three-channel installation, we decided to multiply the number of screens and videos generated by the GAN systems based on the .morphos series. Ultimately, the installation featured 11 screens, each displaying a unique animation of the botanical latent space. The audio design was delivered through an 11.1 sound system, allowing us to integrate specific audio effects corresponding to each screen and animation. Artificial Botany .morphos XI thus consists of a surrounding, immersive environment absorbing the visitors visually and audibly.
