HONG KONG DESIGN INSTITUTE

Artificial Botany .morphos III has been part of the show “Hylozoism” organised in 2024 at the Hong Kong Design Institute in Hong Kong (HK).

The Hong Kong Design Institute is an important institution dedicated to fostering design excellence and innovation. Established in 2006 and located in Tiu Keng Leng, it is housed in the architecturally striking building built by the esteemed firm Dennis Lau & Ng Chun Man Architects & Engineers.

Hylozoism, or animism, is the belief that all things possess a spiritual essence.
This exhibition explores how technology, intertwined with human life, shapes a new ecological narrative that includes more than just natural elements like flowers and plants. It examines the impact of human and technological interventions on nature through art. Curated by Joel Kwong and Keith Lam, the show featured Artificial Botany .morphos III, accompanied by works by international and local artists such as Living Architecture Systems Group/Philip Beesley, Keith Lam, Ellen Pau, Ryuichi Sakamoto X Daito Manabe. Contextualised in this exhibition, Artificial Botany proposes a vision of neo-nature, emphasising metamorphosis, symbiosis and coexistence.
